Raksha Bandhan Utsav
A full month before Raksha Bandhan
Festival, ariot of rakhadis overwhelm shop counters and displays throught
India. Sisters enthusiastically shop, purchasing rakhadis that range
from a few Rupees to more than Rs. 5000. On the day of Raksha Bandhan,
the sister ties the rakhadi on her brother's wrist symbolising protection
from evil influence and strengtheny of sibling love between them. In
return the brother offer gifts or devotions and promises to protect
her too. On this day, at the Shree Swaminarayan mandirs, the Lord is
placed on a swing decorated with rakhadis. The sanctified rakhadis are
then tied on devotees by sadhus.
