The splendor of the Swaminarayan Sampradaya exudes from its bhajans. These 'moving bhajans' appealed even to the poet Nanalal, who observed, "It represents all poetic forms . The bhajans by Brahmanand and Premanand shine equally brilliantly when compared against those composed by their contemporaries." Their poignant bhajans touch upon every form of worship and were created in as many as six languages by Muktanand Swami, Brahmanand Swami, Premanand Swami, Nishkulanand Swami and Devanand Swami. Lord Swaminarayan appreciated singing and also advised that "If a bhajan is sung without remembering the Lord then it bears no fruition." Respecting this tip, the sadhus gave impeccable renditions to please the Lord. This drew the renowned vocalists from Gwalior to Gadhada. That afternoon, Premanand Swami sang the Bhairav Raag, a morning raag, and to everyone's astonishment cocks crowed, sparrows chirped and pigeons cooed as if it was dawn! The distinguished visitors left convinced that worship works wonders. |
