On Friday 22 June 2007, the parents, students and staff of the Swaminarayan School were invited to attend a special function to commemorate the centenary of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha at BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Neasden, London.
The evening began at 6pm with families being given a guided tour around the various parts of the Mandir, guided by kishores and kishoris. They were given a unique opportunity to take part in the abhishek of Nilkanth Varni. The tour also included the ‘Understanding Hinduism’ exhibition. Everyone enjoyed the aarti which was followed by mahaprasad.
The main programme in the Haveli began at 8:30pm. A powerful video on the origins of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha shed light on the titantic struggle to establish the organisation and shed light on many of the great values it stands for. Shukmuni Swami then elaborated on the philosophical and spiritual ideals promoted by BAPS.
A video presentation described The Swaminarayan School as the vision of Brahmaswarup Yogiji Maharaj and a product of the efforts of Pramukh Swami Maharaj. Yogvivek Swami concluded the evening by speaking on the various messages of the current spiritual leader of the BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha, Pramukh Swami Maharaj.
The parents, students and staff of the Swaminarayan School greatly appreciated the efforts of those who made the event possible. They thoroughly enjoyed the evening, and were given a unique opportunity to learn about the work of the Sanstha and Swamishri.
