Community Service remains focus of 2nd Annual Health-Fair
BAPS Medical Services and AIPNO jointly serve people

April 29, 2001. Cleveland, OH.
Encouraged by a well-appreciated Health-Fair last year, the second annual Health-Fair organized jointly by BAPS Medical Services, Inc. and Association of Indian Physicians of Northern Ohio (AIPNO) was held at the BAPS Shree Swaminarayan Mandir in Cleveland on Sunday April 29, 2001. The event was inspired by HDH Pramukh Swami Maharaj who had also blessed many of the physicians at a Medico-Spiritual Conference arranged by the two organizations during his visit to Cleveland last October.

Hon. Mayor Gerald M. Boldt, Mayor of the City of Parma, Ohio inaugurated this Health-Fair. Physicians from more than 25 different specialties donated their services. Other medical professionals and volunteers also served with enthusiasm. People attended the event which was supported by several area-hospitals, pharmaceutical corporations, other companies and benevolent individuals.

The unique procedure was that the participants were registered on a computer, and identification labels were generated, just as in a hospital, which resulted in decreased processing time and thus increased efficiency at many medical booths especially lab services and other tests.

The services and tests performed included cholesterol tests, blood tests such as complete blood count, blood chemistry and PSA, eye exams, EKGs, bone densitometry tests, Pap tests, and audiometry. Other exams offered were blood pressure measurement, cardiac and pulmonary auscultation, ENT, dental screening, orthopedic, rheumatic, rectal, prostate, pelvic, breast and podiatric screening. Opinions / exams were available in pediatrics, allergy medicine, anesthesiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, geriatrics, gynecology, oncology, pain therapy, physical therapy, radiology, surgery, travel medicine, urology, mental health, nutrition, and vegetarianism.

The Health-Fair and the health-related talks ensure that people are offered screening and education for important health issues. BAPS Mandirs ensure that by providing venues and services for such community oriented events, the human spirit remains very much alive and well.
