September 8 2001, Charlotte, NC: Rituals, Exhibition, and Health Fair at Fifth Patotsav of BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir
Five years ago, Pramukh Swami Maharaj
performed the Murthi Pratishta at Shree Swaminarayan Mandir
and inaugurated a center for upholding Hindu culture and religion
in this region. The center celebrated the fifth anniversary
with ceremonious and joyous festivities. It started with auspicious
Mahapooja wherein people joined in the Vedic rituals conducted
by saints from London. On behalf of the members of the Vedic
Society Mr. Nanubhai Patel (president), Mr. Surendrabhai Jain
(Hindu Center of Greenville), Mr. V.K. Shah, and Mr. Mukund
Desai presented a presented a check to BAPS for India earthquake
relief fund.
Saints inaugurated an exhibition depicting the divine life of
Yogiji Maharaj, and the events in the temple for the past five
years. The Kishore Mandal had made great effort in creating
this exhibition. In a health fair organized to serve the local
community, people took advantage of the free health check-up.
The evening program complemented the elegance of the auditorium
with its new Haveli decorations together with spectacular lighting
effects. A breathtaking model of Shreeji Maharaj ascending from
the clouds on his mare Manki mesmerized participants. This was
the result of hard work done by Kishores and Kishorees, who
had sacrificed most of their summer to make this event a success.
A skit by Kishore mandal and well-choreographed dances by Bal
Mandal and Kishore Mandal enthused and excited the gathering.
Saints presented humorous and thoughtful talks on 'Patotsav'.
A video presentation 'Once upon a time, five years ago..' depicted
the humble beginnings of the Charlotte temple, its construction
phase, and Murthi Pratishta festival. Today, with its many activities
for children and teenagers, Hindus in this vicinity are benefiting
from the temple.
