Sunday 28 October
2001, Houston, TX
Devotees and visitors took part in this annual walk-a-thon.
The theme for this annual walk-a-thon was “Walking for Families
of our Heroes”. Everyone came early to Kitty Hollow Park located
at 3434 Hwy 6 south in Missouri City to take part in this walk.
Pujya Jnanpurushswami addressed the gathering and talked about
why this walk is a special one. In his speech he talked about
HDH Pramukh Swami’s message to help the community we live in
and his motto of “In joy of others lies our own”. District Attorney
John Healy was the invited guest. In his speech Hon. John Healy
talked about September 11 tragedy and asked everyone to raise
awareness towards terrorist activity and take action against
it. After doing poojan of Thakorji and shanti path Pujya Jnanpurush
Swami tied a sacred thread on Hon. John Healy’s right hand as
per Hindu vedic ceremony. Hon John Healy then opened the walk-a-thon
by untying the sacred thread. Young children along with adults
were very exited to finish this 5 mile walk around the park
and started to walk as fast as they can to show true American
Sprit with Eastern values. This was also a day of fasting for
most but still morale was high and almost every participant
completed this 5 mile walk for our heroes.
