The 4th Annual Walkathon

Walkers, ranging in age from 14 months to 78 years - overcoming
all physical barriers, participated in the 4th annual “Family
Walk For Family Heroes” walkathon organized by and held at BAPS
Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, Beltsville, MD. In the past, this
event has been dedicated to strengthening the family unity and
building family values. However, in the true spirit of family,
this year’s walkathon and all of its proceeds was donated to
the BAPS Care International – U.S. Relief Fund for the victims
and brave heroes of the September 11th tragedy. The event was
inaugurated by Mr. Natwar Gandhi – Chief Financial Officer,
Government of Washington DC, Mr. Walter Maloney – Council member,
PG County, and other distinguished dignitaries. Invited guests
and the event organizers addressed the enthusiastic crowd with
words of inspiration. Five miles of walk was commenced at 9:45
AM and lasted for about two hours in which American flag waving
to motorists and general public by young children delivered
the message “United We Stand” and added inspiration for everyone
participating.
