Guru Purnima Celebration

13 July 2003, Sunday, Jersey City, NJ:

Guru Purnima is the special day dedicated to the Guru in Hindu culture. Traditionally, it is the birthday of Ved Vyas. It is a day when every Hindu remembers and offers their devotion to their Guru. Each Hindu, all over the world, celebrates Guru Purnima with great enthusiasm and joy.

Program was commenced with the Stuti followed by Dhoon and Prathna. The Kirtan Group filled up the sabha environment with Guru Bhakti by singing two melodious Kirtans - 'Guru Parmeshwar re' and 'Guru Bin Kaun Bataye Bat'. An impressive speech by a Kishore was done focused on explaining the place of a Guru in our life and how he helps us achieving our final goal of becoming brahmaroop. The final thought given by that speech was that we should put our total faith and trust in our Guru. A kirtan, 'Purva Na Punya Falya', was sung to put more realistic meaning to that speech.

After an unforgettable Parayan explaining different types of Guru and the great virtues of an ideal Guru Pramukh Swami Maharaj, Sabha was lucky enough to have a video aashirvad of Pramukh Swami Maharaj. The climax of the sabha was a lovely video presentation made of bapa's pictures with the audio of the kirtan - 'Pramukh Swami no jai bolo'. Everyone did the 'Guru Pujan' at the end of the sabha.
