The Northeast-One region held its 2nd Annual Balika/Kishori Diwali gathering at the Jersey City BAPS Mandir. Balikas and Kishoris from Atlantic City, Cherry Hill, Clifton, Edison, Jersey City, and Philadelphia participated in this event, which consisted of many fun-filled activities geared towards helping Balikas and Kishoris understand the significance of Diwali. A grand annakut was placed in front of Maharaj of items prepared with devotion followed by a sabha where the meanings behind the 5 days of Diwali were discussed. They also had the opportunity to experience Diwali “hands on” through a carnival where there were booths set up for rangoli along with games and a puppet show. The day ended with the Balikas and Kishoris exchanging gifts. In a land where it is easy for youth living abroad to forgo their culture, the region made Diwali a memorable event that was educational and fun for the Balikas and Kishoris.
