The BAPS Northeast Women's wing
held a Women's Convention on May 29, 2004 in the Raritan Exposition
Center in New Jersey. The theme of the program titled "Matru
Devo Bhava", emphasized the importance of preserving Indian
heritage and spiritual values in the society.
Participants, including Balika,
Kishori, Yuvati and Mahila devotees from the eleven mandirs
of the BAPS Northeast Region, came together to create a unique
spiritual and cultural experience through dances, drama, multimedia
presentations, and speeches. The program portrayed a young
Indian American girl who had been raised without the understanding
of Indian culture and values. The drama, rendered through
a dream sequence, depicted her quest to understand the role
of exemplary Indian women through the ages. The Drama concluded
with the main character developing pride in her identity as
an Indian woman and increased spiritual awareness.
The chief guests, Mrs. Agnihotri,
wife of the Ambassador at large Bhishma Agnihotri and Ms.
Seema Singh, Ratepayer advocate to the Governor James McGreevey,
delivered speeches commending the involvement of women of
BAPS in community service through spiritual, social, and educational
activities. Mothers of BAPS saints who were present for the
program were also honored for their unparalleled contribution
to the society.
This program was truly an example
of unity, dedication and devotion of the Women's wing of BAPS.
