Hindu Festivals - Origin, Sentiments & Rituals
Hindu Festivals

This edition was inaugurated by His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj on 28th April 2010 in Amdavad. It is the revised version of the 1st edition published in 2005. The book’s new size and format is in consonance with the author’s previous books, namely: Vachanāmrut Handbook, Rishis, Mystics and Heroes of India (Vol.I, 2006 edition) and Hindu Rites and Rituals (sentiments, sacraments and symbols, 2007).
The following new festivals have also been added:
(1) Attukal Pongal (Chapter 5) – This little known yet unique utsav is the largest religious festival in the world celebrated solely by women in Kerala.
(2) Vishu (Chapter 9) — New Year’s Day in Kerala.
(3) Onam (Chapter 21) — South Indian festival.
In other utsavs, new photos depict celebrations of: Mahā Shivarātri in Gokarna, Rāmanavmi in Ayodhyā and Holi, Janmāshtami and Diwāli in Mathurā and Vrindāvan.
To make reading interactive and exciting, 310 FAQs about festivals have been incorporated especially for those at school and college (in Appendix 7).
