A 3-day special convention for 100 sadhus and 450 leading male and female volunteers of BAPS Satsang Activity Cell was held in the divine presence of Pramukh Swami Maharaj in Gadhada. Swamishri lighted the inaugural lamp in the evening session at about 7.30 pm. The convention’s theme was ‘BAPS, One Family’. During the three days senior sadhus, Mahant Swami, Dr Swami and Viveksagar Swami, also discoursed to the volunteers. Swamishri blessed the convention in the morning and evening sessions.
In his inaugural blessings Swamishri said, “After writing number one the more the zeroes you add, the greater its value becomes. But if you do not have one then the zeroes will remain as zeroes. There is no total for that. God is the figure one. Never delete God. This means never allow any ill-feelings or find fault in Him. Do not perceive human traits in Him. All His actions: speaking, eating or whatever, are divine, divine and divine. But when you see human traits, the one is erased. Then you are left with zeroes and the cycle of life and death continues… No matter what number of mundane props you have, none will be of ultimate use. Only God’s support will be of benefit…”
In the following three days there were question-answer sessions with Swamishri, skits and audio-visual presentations.

           Compassion on an Ailing Child
    • 3 April 2005 (V.S. 2061, Fagan vad 9) Sunday, Sarangpur

A father had brought his ailing child from Junagadh for Swamishri’s blessings. The boy was suffering from Hodgkin’s disease, a cancer of the lymph nodes, and had innumerable tumours all over his body. An attendant sadhu asked Swamishri for some flowers so that he could give them to him as blessings. But Swamishri said that he would like to pray for the boy and bless him himself. Swamishri came out of his room. The summer heat was oppressive.

Swamishri went to the child, Allaukik Madhav Bhatt, and initiated him into Satsang by giving him a little water in his hand and chanted the vartman mantra. Then Swamishri sprinkled the holy water from his morning puja on the boy’s head and body and chanted the Swaminarayan mantra. Swamishri prayed for the liberation of his soul and sprinkled flower petals on his head.
Swamishri consoled the boy’s father, “He has cancer; God will be compassionate upon him. His will shall prevail. I have prayed that he does not suffer further.”

To the child Swamishri said, “You keep remembering God. You have my blessings for no pain.”

             Inner Feelings of Humility
    • 8 April 2005 (V.S. 2061, Fagan vad 30) Friday, Sarangpur

Many sadhus and devotees were eagerly awaiting in a hall for Swamishri’s arrival for dinner. Swamishri entered with folded hands and proceeded in that manner all the way to his seat. Someone asked, “Why fold your hands all the way?”

Swamishri responded, “God resides in all so one has to fold one’s hands.” Then Swamishri added, “I follow what Shastriji Maharaj has taught me. He told me to fold my hands before all. One should get work done by folding one’s hands. Then one will experience divine feelings and glory for all and have personal joy.”

Swamishri’s humility is forever a source of inspiration to all.

             Key to Balance in Life
    • 16 April 2005 (V.S. 2061, Chaitra sud 7) Saturday, Gadhada

A mandir guard, named Ashwin, asked Swamishri, “Sometimes I feel unhappy and sometimes happy. What should I do?”

“Bhajan. When you are happy do bhajan and when unhappy, again do bhajan.”

Swamishri prescribed the highest and the best means to remain balanced in life.

             Essence of SPiritual Endeavour
    • 17 April 2005 (V.S. 2061, Chaitra sud 8) Sunday, Gadhada

A sadhu asked Swamishri, “I have pledged by myself not to eat fried and sweet food till the inauguration of Akshardham. Is this an act of wilfulness?”

Swamishri replied “Observing that which is in consonance with Shriji Maharaj’s wish or instruction does not amount to wilfulness. Maharaj has told us to observe austerity and abstinence. But if one does it to show and increase one’s greatness then it is wilfullness. If you nourish a feeling that by your austerity others will think highly of you then it is wilfulness. That people will believe in me, look at me and praise that how wonderful my discourses are – such feelings one must not have at all. One should do it to please God only. Doing anything by leaving Maharaj aside amounts to wilfulness.”

Swamishri outlined the essence and sentiments of spiritual endeavour.

To please Bhagwan Swaminarayan and Guru Pramukh Swami Maharaj children, youths and senior devotees perform austerities, pilgrimages or other devotional means. The spiritual endeavors performed by the devotees during Swamishri's visit to the local centers are congratulatory and worthy of recognition. It also reflects Swamishri's divinity for inspiring such spiritual efforts in children, teenagers and devotees.
