Swaminarayan Jayanti and Ram Navmi Celebration in North America
March 28, 2010

The month of Chaitra arrives bringing with it overwhelming excitement for many devotees around the world, for this is the month to plan and participate in the celebration of Chaitra Sud 9. Known as Ram Navmi, the day also marks the Swaminarayan Jayanti, making it doubly significant for the devotees of the Swaminarayan Sampraday.

This year, on the weekend of March 27-28, the atmosphere was charged with added devotion at centers throughout North America as they held Swaminarayan Jayanti celebration assemblies consisting of folk dances, discourses, and enactments.

A laudable program presented by the children, youth and adults expounded on the theme of Bolyaa Shri Hari Re, a theme which took a closer look at the words of Bhagwan Swaminarayan and the lives of devotees who abided by these words no matter the obstacle. Various skits and speeches accentuated this message and highlighted the qualities of Bhagwan as seen through His words. Folk dances showcasing a cultural legacy and the talent of children and youth enthralled the audience which was further enlightened by Swamishri’s video blessings.

Toward the end of the celebration, elegantly dressed murtis of Akshar and Purushottam witnessed as devotees, community leaders and local dignitaries attending the assembly placed Thakorji on an ornate swing while singing the Janmotsav, “Dharma gher anand bhayo, jay bolo Ganshyam ki.”

This celebration provided an opportunity for the devotees to gain a richer understanding of Bhagwan Swaminarayan’s words and accordingly guide their actions.
