Murti
Pratishtha Ceremony
On 23 April, 1984 His Divine Holiness Pramukh Swami
Maharaj performed the murti-pratishtha ceremony at the Shri
Swaminarayan Mandir in Preston. Prior to the consecration
rituals, on 22 April 2003, a grand
procession (nagaryatra) of decorative floats with the murtis
of Shri Akshar Purushottam Maharaj, Shri Radha Krishna Dev
and Guru Parampara was carried out on the streets of Preston.
History
The BAPS satsang mandal in Preston commenced in
1974. Initially, the weekly satsang assembly was conducted
in the homes of devotees. About 80 devotees attended on a
regular basis. During festivals the attendance increased to
200 devotees and well-wishers. Then with the increase in attendance
a synagogue was purchased in 1982 and renovated into a mandir.
In 1984 Swamishri consecrated the murtis of deities and inaugurated
Shri Swaminarayan Mandir, hari mandir, in Preston. Ever since
the weekly satsang assembly and festivals are performed in
the mandir.
