The Vile Turn Virtuous
When Sagram happened
to see a silver bangle lying on the road, he covered it with dust, lest
his wife should be tempted to pick it up - especially in this time of
severe famine. But his wife was made of a nobler moral core and believed
others' possessions as mere dust. The lost bangle was restored to its
owner. He expressed gratitude by offering a gift to Sagram who declined
it, saying, "This is my duty." Having learnt of the transformation
of Sagram from the vilest to the virtuous, the King of Bhavnagar invited
him to his palace and asked him if Lord Swaminarayan had shown him any
miracle. Sagram replied, "The fact that I, a Vaghari by caste am
sitting beside you, the King, is in itself the greatest miracle of my
life. Lord Swaminarayan has transformed my life."
Poet laureate Nanalal has said, "Religion preached by Swaminarayan
benefits us in life, both here and hereafter."
