The Compassionate Lord
Jivan Koli, a hesitant, poor,
low caste man approached Sahajanand Swami who was seated in the midst
of devotees on the bank of the lake at Jetalpur. He lovingly offered
Him a half-baked rotlo plus greens. Lord Swaminarayan started eating
it. The devotees asked for prasad. After eating some portion of the
half-baked rotlo they realised that the Lord had responded to the boy's
love. God yearns for love and not worldly dishes and riches.
Torrential rains in Sarangpur - a small village - played havoc on a
shepherd's cattle-shed. Its beam was about to collapse and trap the
animals. The shepherd's cry for help aroused the Lord sleeping at Jiva
Khachar's home. He rushed to the spot and propped up the beam until
the animals were removed to safety. Indeed a noble example of compassion.
Kishorelal Mashruwala remarks, "Sahajanand Swami elevated nearly
all the down-trodden of Gujarat in a true sense."
