A Prayer for Two Unique Blessings
Neelkanth first met Ramanand
Swami at Piplana, near Junagadh. Ramanand Swami had declared, "I
am merely the drum-beater, whereas, the true star would soon arrive."
He initiated Neelkanth as a sadhu and named Him 'Sahajanand'.
Soon Ramanand Swami appointed the young Sahajanand Swami as his spiritual
successor. During the ceremonial function the twenty-one-year-old Sahajanand
asked for two boons from His preceptor: "If any of your devotees
has to suffer pain, as from the sting of a scorpion, let Me instead
suffer that pain a thousand-fold on every hair of My body. Also if your
devotee is destined to have a begging bowl, let that be My lot, but
your devotee must not suffer from want of food and clothing."
In the light of these words, Sahajanand Swami excels as an idol of compassion
in the annals of spiritual history.
