Sankari is a very
small village with a population of no more than a hundred people
and a single street of homes. Lush farms and trees surround the
village. Pramukh Swami Maharaj
consecrated the murtis of Akshar Purushottam Maharaj and Laxminarayan
Dev in Sankari on 3 June, 1971. It was Swamishri's first murti-pratishtha
of a shikharbaddh mandir.
Accompanied by Pujya Sant Swami and
Pujya Mahant Swami, Swamishri graced the Nagar Yatra prior to
the murti pratishtha ceremony. The murti pratishtha ceremony was
performed with due vedic chants and rituals. At the conclusion
of the pratishtha, Swamishri held up a miror to the Murti so that
the first thing that the Lord saw through the murti's eyes was
His own murti. It is not very common that the mirror, due to the
force of the light emerging from the murti, cracks. But this miracle
happened in Sankari, marking an auspicious and glorious beginning
for Swamishri's consecration of more than 350 Mandirs. And true
to this miracle, every Annakut festival, the Sankari Thakorji
confirms His presence by accepting one of the food items offered
to Him.
At this occassion of Murti-pratishtha a devotee called Natvarbhai
created and sang the famous bhajan "Vhala
Akshardhamana Vaasi Maare Haiye Karjo Vaas"
The number of Mandirs being consecrated
by Swamishri is still growing, with his conviction that what the
world today needs is centers of morality, ethics and spirituality
- Mandirs help humanity orient itself towards better living and
aim towards the divine.
