BAPS, under the inspiration of Pramukh
Swami Maharaj, has professionally and scientifically planned to rebuild
over 2000 homes in 8 villages and a colony in Bhuj, involving the local
people and community. The rebuilding of 8 villages, namely; Ukhadmora,
Nana Khirsara, Devisar, Gunatitpur, Jiyapur, Nani Mau, Modpur and Gariya,
will comprise of:
1. Housing
2. Social structure
3. Economic structure
4. Amenities and facilities
5. Resource management
The participatory process of involving the community in the design of
their neighbourhood consisted of:
1. Conducting a reconnaisance study to ascertain and understand the
existing conditions in the community: the physical
layout, demography, socio-cultural and economic aspects and any unique
or characteristic features of the place or people.
2. Discussion with the villagers, in an effort to understand their lifestyles
and social groups to evolve design solutions
sensitive to social and cultural requirements of the people. From these
discussions, parameters of the area, extent
of site, clusters organisation, facilities and amenities were decided
upon.
3. Motivating the people and discussing their needs, aspirations and
requirements.
4. Identifying and aquiring the land for resettlement, and assessment
of its site features.
Proposed home plans for this re-construction
is given below. Also, some parts of the master planning of the adopted
villages are also presented here.
