1984 ~ Famine of Ethopia, Africa

In the spring of I984, the ugly face of famine unveiled itself in Ethopia. Almost 7 million people were threatened by food shortages. Stark photographs of undernourished, pot-bellied children ripped through the consciousness of the civilized world. It was the first time the whole world stood witness at the devastating force of a famine, the worst in the history of the whole human race.

The Sanstha’s volunteers in London, UK, through a variety of means, raised funds for the people of Ethopia’s famine. On 27th January 1985, a cheque was presented to the Ethopian Relief Fund through the Minister of State’s Under Secretary for Northern Ireland, Mr. Rhodes Boyson. Mr. Boyson commented, "Just as you care and feel responsible for members of your family, you also look after those in hardships."
