8 January 2002: Yagna for World
Peace
For millennia India's
tradition of yagnas have always showered upon her the benedictions of
gods. The mellifluous chanting of Vedic mantras are prayers and offerings
in appreciation to the gods for their generous contributions for the
sustenance of life on earth.
This morning, to continue the tradition upheld by Bhagwan Swaminarayan,
who abolished himsak yagnas and performed giant ahimsak yagnas, a yagna
for World Peace was held in the presence of Swamishri.
The yagna-shala consisted of 200 yagna-kunds with 1,570 couples participating
in the rituals. Brahmin pundits chanted the Vedic mantras to appease
the gods and to promote morality, peace, fraternity and prosperity in
society. Pramukh Swami Maharaj performed the Vedic rituals and finally
addressed the assembly, "Gujarat will forever be indebted to Bhagwan
Swaminarayan who performed ahimsak yagnas and reinstated the honor and
pride of the yagna tradition in Indian culture. The gods are invoked
and appeased through the yagna rituals. They bless us with so many things,
therefore through the yagna rituals we express our gratitude to them.
We pray at the feet of Bhagwan Swaminarayan that the problems and issues
plaguing our society subside, peace prevail in the world, people become
spiritually inclined, the rains shower abundantly, the Narmada dam project
be successfully completed and the pilgrim place of Gadhada develop and
grow."
Swamishri then performed pujan of murtis of Shri Ghanshyam Maharaj and
Guru Shastriji Maharaj to be installed in the mandir sanctum.
